IP testing is offered by many laboratories, and the reports differ enormously in usefulness. Six checks separate a competent lab from a certificate printer.
1. Is the specific clause within the accreditation scope, not just the standard? 2. Is the flow measured and recorded for each test, or assumed from the nozzle? 3. Does the report state the sample configuration, including cable entries? 4. Are the equipment calibration dates current? 5. Is the dust chamber concentration verified? 6. Will they test in the mounting orientation you actually use?
A report that quotes the same duration for every product, no measurements, and no photographs. A lab that cannot tell you the flow rate of its IPX5 nozzle is not measuring anything.
A cheap test that has to be repeated after a certification rejection costs more than a thorough one. Ask for a sample report before booking, and check that it contains numbers rather than ticks.
